What is Qufora used for?

The Qufora® IrriSedo Mini system is a simple one handed system for rectal irrigation which is used while sitting on or over the toilet. A hand pump is filled with lukewarm water and a rectal cone is inserted into the rectum. By squeezing the hand pump once, water flows into the rectum.

How do you do Peristeen?

Peristeen insertion is usually conducted on or over a toilet or bed-side commode. Empty the bladder before irrigation. Open the lid of the bag and fill the bag to the top with lukewarm water. As the bag unfolds, the water level will fall and refilling is necessary.

What is a Peristeen pump?

Peristeen is a transanal irrigation system consisting of a rectal catheter with an inflatable balloon, a manual control unit with a pump, leg straps, and a bag to hold water. The constant flow pump means that the system does not depend on gravity, and the bag does not need to be elevated.

How do you do a bowel irrigation?

Warm water is instilled into your rectum and lower colon via your anus, using a rectal catheter or cone. The warm water stimulates the bowel to work, so that when the catheter or cone is removed, faeces (stool) and water can pass into the toilet in the same way as a normal bowel movement.

How long does Peristeen take?

The drainage time is individual, but on average it takes 30 minutes and leaves the bowel clean and empty for up to 2 days.

How often should you irrigate your colon?

Most people irrigate every 1 or 2 days, but more or less often is fine. It is probably best to get into a regular routine, rather than varying the interval a lot. It is only with time and practice that you will learn what works best for you and your bowel.

How often should you use Peristeen?

We recommend that you place an order every 4-6 week, so how many you will need depends on how often you use Peristeen. We recommend you change the catheters after every single use, the bag after every 15 uses, and you’ll need to replace the screw top, lid, pump and control after every 90 uses.

Is Peristeen covered by Medicare?

There is no Medicare benefit for this device; therefore, claims for code A4459 will be denied as non-covered (no Medicare benefit). Code A4459 is an all-inclusive code at initial issue.

What is a DIL stick?

Digital stimulation is a way to empty the reflex bowel after a spinal cord injury. It may also be called a “dil.” It involves moving the finger or dil stick around in a circular motion inside the rectum. By doing this, the the bowel reflex is stimulated and the rectal muscles open and allow the stool to leave the body.
